How To Measure

WHAT SIZE AM I?

Bridal, prom and special occasions manufactures tend to fit very small, and they all have their own size charts. So don't stress if you are usually a size 8 but your measurements fall into a bridal size 12. It is just a number, a number used for ordering, that's it!!

Taking your measurements has to be done correctly; there is no room for errors. So, we suggest you have a seamstress or tailor in your area take your measurements. "The measurements you supply us with are the customer's responsibility. Stella's Bridal Galleria assumes no responsibility for measurements and size ordered in which you have supplied us with."

Stella's is always here to help, if you have questions pertaining to measurements and picking a size, please call!

Please review the following guidelines in regards to measurements and picking your size:

1) USE A PROFESSIONAL

If possible try and have your measurements taken by a seamstress or tailor. If you do not have access, ask someone who is familiar with sewing. Please do not measure yourself.

2) WHAT TO WEAR WHEN MEASURING

Measurements can be taken over your regular thin clothing. Don't measure over real bulky sweaters, sweatpants or layers of clothing.

Remember - very important !!! Hold tape with thumb/index finger starting at the beginning of the tape, 0 inches, not starting at 60 inches mark. It is an easy mistake to make and you measurements will be wrong.

3) MEASURING YOUR BUST

Standing straight, feet together, arms at side, position tape around largest part of back and fullest area of bust.

4) MEASURING YOUR WAIST

Standing straight, feet together, arms at side, position tape around smallest part of your waist. Usually 1 -2 inches above your belly bottom. Girls, your natural waist line is not where your jeans ( low riding jeans) sit, make sure and measure above your bell button!!

5) MEASURING YOU HIPS

Standing straight, feet together, arms at side, position tape around the largest part of your hips, about 7 inches down from your belly button.

6) MEASURING HOLLOW TO HEM

Call us to go over verbally!

Hollow to hem is offered by designers when hems are very intricate to alter. But, we stress that hollow to hem measurements must be done correctly. Please have a professional seamstress or tailor measure you. Standing straight, (no slouching), feet together, arms at sides, and wearing the heal height you will be wearing on your wedding day. Position the measuring tape in the hole of your neck (above your collar bone), pulling down lightly to the desired hem length of your gown. See illustration for hollow to hem measurements in regards to allowing for fullness of gown. Hollow to hem cost extra, see availability and charges on individual gown listing.

7) DO YOU NEED EXTRA LENGTH OR PETITE SIZING?

Bridal gowns generally come one standard, length, which is 58". If you measure 5'8 or under, with your shoes on, ( with heal height you will be wearing on the wedding day) you should be fine and no extra length should be needed. But if you are over 5'8 with or without shoes on, we suggest you order extra length. A standard extra length is 5" added to a gown, and charges vary depending on designer. See availability and charges on individual gown listing.

Now that you have your measurements, click on the designer of your gown and compare to the size chart. If your measurements are between different sizes, always go with the biggest size of your largest measurement. It is always easier to take in a gown then let out!! Remember, your gown is not custom made to your measurements; your measurements are needed only to fit you into a size closest to your size with the least amount of alterations needed. Almost ever gown will need some sort of alterations to fit perfectly.
